(New Orleans, LA – August 28, 2022) The Kimberly K. Gallow Foundation hosted its second virtual summer program in 2022, for young women who recently graduated from high school– the Let Her Rise program.
The Let Her Rise Program is a spiritually led mentoring program dedicated to young women who are graduating seniors in high school and plan to attend a two or four year college or university in Louisiana.
For the inaugural cohort in 2020, there were more than 20 applicants who applied for a spot in the Let Her Rise program but only six were selected. In 2022, the foundation received 10 applications however, only four participants were selected in Louisiana. Participants engaged in a six-week virtual program that focused on college readiness, how to achieve and maintain academic success, and how to maintain a social and spiritual life while in school.
$500 was raised for the program during a social media fundraiser supported by Alexis Moses, Attorney Bianca N. Moore, Dr. Ashley Baker, Hailey Macdonald, and Ann E. Macdonald. All powerful women connected to the foundation and who believe in our mission. Another $500 has been donated by Founder, Kimberly K. Gallow.
Of the four program participants, the Kimberly K. Gallow Foundation has selected Kayla Harris, a freshman at Southern University of Louisiana as its second Let Her Rise Scholarship Recipient. Kayla will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded $500 in the fall semester and the remaining in the spring semester.
"Kayla demonstrated high interest in wanting to become an effective student and an impactful leader while at Southern. She was attentive throughout the program, asked questions outside of formal meetings, and connected with her mentor, Nichelle Taylor. I can't wait to watch Kayla grow into an inspirational leader who will inform, influence, and inspire others on her campus and it's my hope that this scholarship will remind her to continue to live in her purpose," says program organizer, Kimberly K. Gallow.
KKG Foundation would like to thank all donors, participants, mentors and presenters for their support, time, energy, and effort in ensuring the inaugural program was a success.
